Lucy is a girly girl and she wanted to be a princess for Halloween. Here she is before our wards Trunk-or-Treat. Lucy loved trunk-or-treating, mostly because of the candy- this girl loves candy especially anything chocolate. We spent actual Halloween at Grandma Snow's in Mesa. Below are photos of her on Halloween.

Here is a little video of Lucy back in September. Lucy loves to sing. One night after going to a diamondback game Lucy gave us a little performance of twinkle. Now she has become quite good at singing her favorite song. She sings it in her crib, she sings it is the tub, she even sang it (loudly I must add) yesterday at stake conference.

So in case you didn't know, Dallin graduated with his Masters in May and we moved to Arizona because Dallin got a job at this place:

However, after only two days of working there, he got a call from Midwestern Dental School offering him acceptance this fall. We are still in shock. Dallin will be starting dental school at Midwestern in Glendale, AZ in August. It is such a huge blessing and miracle for our little family. We are so excited!

To Next Season

So-long beloved Suns...'til next season! It has been a great season and an even better playoff run, and even though all the so-called 'experts' say the Suns were the surprise team of the season, I knew they had it in them to win as many games as they did. So now come the Finals and as much as I don't like the Lakers, I'm going to have to cheer for them because I like the Celtics less. So to Kobe I say good luck and to my Suns I say once again 'there is always next season!'

Apparently Lucy is Blind

Don't ask me how this happened, but Lucy seemed to pick up somewhere how to use a walking stick like a blind person. This was totally unprompted. All we did was ask her if she was blind and she shouted back to us as you might hear, "I'm blind!" Where did she come from? I'm going to say she got it from Lindsey.

Recent Happenings

So in the aftermath of the Cardinals going down in the divisional round we've been our normal busy selves. Lindsey is always busy (mostly with Lucy) with all kinds of stuff; e.g., primary, mom/craft group, dallin, etc. Lucy is talkin up a storm and probably learns a new word everyday. Right now she loves her "pockets" - if she hears the word she'll immediately say it and start searching for her pockets to put her hands into. If she doesn't have any she'll find yours and put her hands in them.

I have been plugging away on my research. The thesis is almost complete. One big piece of it was published online last month and is now in the current issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

I'm pretty proud of it and it makes the rest of the thesis writing so much easier. So that has been us these past weeks.

A Tribute to Larry

Clearly we must have gotten burned out of blogging as we haven't posted in quite some time. However, after the Cardinals last game I couldn't let too much time go without saying something about it.

Although Fitzgerald didn't have a huge game (82 yds on 6 receptions and 2 TDs), his presence was definitely felt in what was an offensive battle won on defense! It's not hard to like this guy; much to no ones surprise, he is mine and lindsey's favorite player. You know every game he will have at least one amazing catch. So for now let's not jinx them too badly and just wish the Cardinals luck on Saturday against the Saints and hope Warner has any kind of game similar to last week's (29/33 for 379 yds passing).

P.S. Lindsey's favorite Christmas present was a Cardinals shirt with Larry's name and number on it.

As a mid-month update, I think fall is settling in here in our neck of the woods. The leaves are starting to change color; we got a little rain this past weekend and a nice, hard down-pour yesterday afternoon. The evenings are nice and almost cold sometimes. Last weekend we got the chance to get out before the rain and camp with Lucy for the first time. She did great. Why do one-year-olds love dirt so much?

This week we're heading to AZ for a dental interview at Midwestern in Glendale. I'm sure I'll be really nervous, but I've been trying to prepare as much as possible so it should go just fine. Following the interview we'll be heading to the mountains of Pine, AZ for a little family reunion. More camping for Lucy; she'll love it!

Summer Highlights

Although this summer was very eventful for us, the blog doesn't show it; so I thought a little summary of this summer's happenings was warrented.

After many months of a cold winter Lucy couldn't stand being inside. She often finds her way to the window and just yells to whatever she sees out there.

Morro Bay

I guess our summer vacation officially started with a trip to the central coast with Lindsey's family the first week of June. This was Lucy's second trip to the beach and she loved it as much if not more than the first trip.

The water was so cold I had to get myself a wet suit to be able to stay in the water longer than a couple of minutes.

It was definately worth it that trip and I plan on using it for many trips to come.

We got to see some of the wild life of central CA. Central CA didn't make me think of zebras before, but thanks to Hearst it does now!

Hot Summer Dayz

Many of the Hot summer days Lucy goes to swim with her friends.

4th of July in AZ

We spent the first week of July in AZ where lucy got to spend a lot of time with her cousins. She loved swimming everyday and of course she loved the water slide. She was in heaven watching all her little cousins run around her. She's fascinated with other little kids.

24th Celebration

For the 24th, the city puts on a little fair-like celebration with activities throughout the day and fireworks that night. It got too late for Lucy to stay for the fireworks but we spent most of the afternoon there. The highlight was the home-run derby they had.

August featured many fishing trips where we caught nothing.
We loved just being outside though.
There is a really beautiful spot near a dam so it makes a large pond. They've built a deck all along the water so you can just sit on the deck and cast away.

Trip to Bear Lake

By the end of the summer we finally made it to Bear Lake. It has nice sandy beaches and it stays very shallow for a long ways into the water. One catch though, the water is freezing. Of course lucy loved being in water, regardless of the temperature. She did get a little cold though so I buried her in the sand. That warmed her right up and she loved it.

The summer went quickly but we made some fun memories!

Lucy is 1!

Well Lucy's birthday has come and gone; we're a little late with the update and pictures, but nevertheless, Lucy had a fun birthday week anyway! She is 1, I can't beleive it. She loved waking up to the presents and especially her new princess bike. It plays tunes that she dances to, and she loves pushing it around the room.

She loves playing with balls and still says "ball" more than any other word so I attempted to make her a beach ball cake. The inside was a rainbow design that looked awesome and like a beach ball until we put the frosting on it. It was a cool whip/pudding frosting so it was harder than I expected to frost. She never had cake before and was a little hesitant, but when she figured out how to tear into it she loved it!

Also, LUCY TOOK HER FIRST STEPS! Actually she's been cruising all over the furniture for a while, but about a month ago, Jul 14 to be exact, she took her first steps without holding on to anything. She still prefers to crawl but this last week she has been walking along the walls where ever she wants to go. So I'm sure soon she will be running all over.

Independence Day 2009

Come fly with me

We are getting ready to fly the friendly skies. We are leaving Saturday for another California vacation with my family. My little brother is graduating high school, and then we are heading for the beach again. After our last long trip in the car we thought we might try flying this time- another 13-14 hours in the car didn't sound so fun. We are a little nervous about lucy because she has flown before but she was only 3 months old and pretty much just slept the whole way...she is little more wiggly these days.

Here is an update on Lucy: She is so fun! Dallin and I feel so blessed to have her in our lives, she keeps us smiling. She is crawling all over the house and pulling herself up on all the furniture. She loves standing. She is even cruising along the furniture. Her favorite is the foot stool in our family room- its the perfect height for her. She is definitely a hand full and keeps us busy. She has also started eating more of what we eat at meals. She is a food moocher and gets really mad if you don't let her have some of what your eating. It's funny. She will be 10 months this week and it's amazing to me how fast she is growing up!

California Dreamin'

Dallin just finished finals week and is busy with work in his lab, but it was nice to get away the weekend before finals. We spent a long weekend in Ventura, CA with our good friends Brian and Jill Fillmore and CJ and Lisa Eagar. We stayed at the Fillmore's beach house right on the beach and it was so fun. The three little babies played, the boys surfed and went to Magic Mountain and the girls chatted and shopped. Lucy got her first experience with the ocean; she loved playing in the sand and eating it. It was so relaxing and beautiful to be by the ocean-I miss it so much being in Utah for so long.

We stopped by to see my parents in Bakersfield on our way to the coast-Lucy loved seeing grandma and grandpa and playing with Brandon. We are looking forward to another California vacation with them at the beginning of June. We also got the chance to sneak to Pomona, CA and visit a dental school. We really liked it and are planning on applying there. Things have been pretty busy since we got home, I will try to be better at posting what's going on.

Lucy's First Easter!

Lucy destroyed her basket in seconds- eggs, bunnies, toys everywhere!

This is Easter at Grandma Carter's house in Layton with my sisters. Lucy, Jack and Hallie "hunted" for eggs. It was fun to be together with family. I decided I was going to make Lucy's Easter dress, it turned out pretty good. I was proud of myself.

Baby Animal Days

We took Lucy to Baby Animal Days, an annual event at the American West Heritage Center here in Logan. It was a blast! They had tons of little baby animals, you could hold a chick, a duck, a little bunny and little turtles. The lamb in this picture was only a week old. Lucy didn't quite know what to think of the baby animals, but she had so much fun being outside and playing with the balloon we got her. We walked around and saw all the pigs, lambs, goats, etc., watched the little rodeo, and took a wagon ride. It was fun; definitely taking her back next year! This morning I was surprised to walk out my front door and find what was left of my bike. You see a week or two ago it was such nice weather I got my bike out only to have it snow a couple days later. It was almost melted until this morning. Lucy just wants to get to know the sun that's all.
